Have you heard of Hema? It’s a bit like a Dutch version of the Danish Tiger stores crossed with Ikea. They have almost 700 stores in seven different countries in Europe and last week I went to the opening of the first UK outlet in Victoria, London. There aren’t many stores where you can pick up a pink frying pan, a genuine Duralex Picardie glass for 60p (I bought 6. I couldn’t not), pretty patterned tape, a decent makeup brush and a packet of stroopwafles all in one trip.

This ‘variety store’ reminds me of a posh Woolworths with more of a design aesthetic. They are also opening a larger store in Kingston and Bromley later this month and a UK online shop is due to launch later this year.

I’ve never heard of Hema but it sounds amazing and I consider to visit the outlet in Victoria. Would you be so kind to give me the full address? Thanks in advance :)

        Hi Lucas,

It’s inside Victoria Place Shopping Centre, Buckingham Palace Road.

Or you can access if from inside Victoria mainline station.

I lived in the Netherlands for 6 years, returning to the UK in 2001 and I still miss Hema! I visit the store whenever I make a return trip to Europe. I managed to bring a huge glass vase back on my last trip which cost me only £10 in Hema, having seen them at £40+ over here. I love Hema’s kitchen & dining accessories. Can’t wait for the online shop!
